AGH Social Work

At Adventure Great Himalaya, we believe that tourism should benefit local communities. Likewise, it should be environmentally friendly. In addition to trekking and travel, we have been involved in various social initiatives including community development and responsible and low impact travel.
We also help children who have lost their parents. Furthermore, we support clean drinking water initiatives that help communities gain better access to safe and reliable water.
Adventure Great Himalaya is a lifetime member of KEEP (Kathmandu Environmental Education Project). The owner, Mr. Babu Karki, is a board member of KEEP. This non profit non governmental organization aims to preserve the ecological and cultural prosperity of Nepal and its people ensuring the maximization of benefits of tourism while minimizing its negative impacts.
As part of this commitment, we work together with KEEP on various projects aimed at promoting sustainable tourism and providing support to the local communities.
In addition, we work for the welfare of porters and place a strong focus on environmental awareness ensuring minimal impact through travel. We contribute 5% of our profits to social causes, which can help create a positive impact in the communities.
What We Do?
Porter Welfare
We are committed to providing support for the welfare of porters. They are an important part of trekking sector in Nepal. Their support plays huge role in the successful completion of trekking adventures.
We promote fair treatment. In addition, we make sure porters are aware of safety measures. We also ensure that they have access to basic necessities required for their health and safety.
At Adventure Great Himalaya, we aim to protect porter rights. We highly focus on taking measures to improve their working conditions. We ensure that they receive fair and reasonable pay for their work. This will help them support their families and improve overall well being.
Environmental Awareness
Through responsible and low impact travel practices, we are dedicated to promoting awareness about the environment. We encourage travelers, guides, our staff members, and local communities to reduce waste, avoid single use plastics, conserve water and follow the principles of sustainable tourism which will ultimately help in the preservation of resources.
We collaborate with lodges/ hotels that promote eco friendly practices and help travelers be more responsible while trekking and travelling to contribute to the conservation of the natural environment of Nepal.
Rural Development Program
We provide assistance in rural areas with our initiatives for education and safe drinking water. A portion of income is directed toward community initiatives that support education, access to safe drinking water and other essential needs.
These efforts can improve the daily lives of local people. All these initiatives create better learning opportunities for children and reduce the challenges of accessing safe water. Access to education can help children get better opportunities for their future. Likewise, safe drinking water improves basic health and hygiene in rural areas, making communities healthier.
In addition, we contribute to several community based projects so that local needs can be addressed which will help create better opportunities for families. We try to connect tourism and also focus on rural development programs so that local people can also get the benefits of tourism.
Our Volunteer Works
At Adventure Great Himalaya, we engage ourselves in volunteer activities in various locations in Nepal. We are open to individuals, organizations, students, professionals, and tourists who would like to join the volunteer work with us.
The opportunities for volunteer work usually include:
Language Teaching
We support language teaching programs that help children and community members to build their language skills. This is usually done through volunteers teaching English and other languages in local schools and communities.
This not only builds self-confidence, but also improves their communication and increases access to future educational and job opportunities.
Our volunteers teach the language and also get to experience local lifestyle by meeting the people and learning about their daily lives while sharing knowledge in a supportive learning environment.
First Aid Training
We provide first aid training. This can help communities acquire health and safety knowledge. Usually our volunteers share practical knowledge on how to deal with injuries and emergencies and other basic health situations.
The training is very useful especially in rural and remote areas, where medical assistance is usually limited. The training is designed to improve community preparedness in emergencies.
All our team members are trained in first aid and they also share valuable knowledge with the local communities. In addition, we provide opportunities for interested volunteers to share practical knowledge and basic safety awareness so that local people will be well trained and be able provide first aid in emergencies.
Daily Lifestyle and Culture
We believe that travelling in Nepal should also be an opportunity to meet local people and experience their warm hospitality. Because we work closely with local communities, we can arrange authentic daily-life and cultural experiences for travellers and volunteers who wish to see a different side of Nepal.
Volunteering in Nepal is not limited to teaching and providing help. At times, just sitting around and talking with the local people can make for an unforgettable experience.
We highly encourage our volunteers to experience the daily Nepalese life and culture by interacting with the local people and families. Volunteers can stay at local home stays and get an opportunity to taste local cuisine and learn about traditions, festivals, languages, and culture.
In addition, by participating in the day-to-day activities, they can understand the local culture more deeply and develop a new perspective on life. We can arrange these experiences by coordinating with local communities based on interests of volunteers.
Such experiences facilitate cultural exchange where the local communities and visitors can learn about each other and develop a genuine bond based on respect, understanding and shared experiences.
Donation
If you wish to donate and assist us in our social work, we welcome your contribution. For community initiatives, small practical donations are highly valuable.
However, there are many ways to help. For example, trekkers can contribute to the welfare of porters by donating trekking clothes and equipment. Warm jackets and trekking clothes can be very useful and valuable for porters who work in the mountains.
Financial contributions can also help to educate the children, provide clean drinking water and support other social activities that contribute to community development.
We encourage all contributions to be practical and based on the genuine needs of community. For more information, you may send us an email at info@greathimalaya.com or
