Gosaikunda Trek is  Popular 4, 5 days moderate trekking in Langtang Region. The trek’s major highlight is the holy Lake of Gosaikunda. The lake occupies the total area of 4 square miles. More than 25,000 Hindus and Buddhists pilgrims come to take a dip in the lake during Janai Purnima (one of the popular Hindu festival), which falls on the month of August.

According to Hindu mythology, Lord Shiva himself created this high altitude lake when he pierced a glacier with his trident to obtain the water to quench this thirst after consuming poison gathered from the churning of the oceans.

The best time to visit Gosaikunda Holy Lake for trekking is during the spring and autumn months when Nepal experiences its peak trekking season. Gosaikunda Trek Itinerary

Day 1

Drive to Dhunche By Jeep (1,960m): 6/7 drive

Dhunche Altitude: 1,960 meters / 6,430 feet
Drive Time: 6 to 7 hours
Transportation: By Jeep

After having breakfast at the hotel in the morning, drive to Dhunche across the Trishuli River. The journey is great with moving waters, hills with crops, and forests all around. The drive has smooth stretches mixed with moderate mountain drives, and a little rough ground for adventure. Dhunche, being the district headquarters of Rasuwa, is the headquarters of Langtang National Park.

Trekkers can take a break and experience the small town life by doing some shopping at the local market stalls. It is a crucial point of departure for the Langtang and Gosaikunda treks. From Dhunche, you will proceed to Chandanbari and further go to visit the Tamang village. The tour then continues to visit the Nuwakot Durbar and further dive into the tracks of the Himalayas.

Day 2

Trekking Dhunche to Chandanbari (3,335m): 4/5 trek

Chandanbari Altitude: 3,335 meters / 10,942 feet

Trekking Duration: 4 to 5 hours

A peaceful forest with bamboo and oak trees welcomes the trail while ascending from Dhunche before breakfast. Each ascent through the path reveals several small villages starting from Deurali to Dimsa before reaching the destination of Chandanbari. The walking brings visitors to Chandanbari, commonly referred to as Sing Gompa.

The famous local monastery inside this village holds religious value to the local inhabitants. You can visit this monastery in the evening for peaceful contemplation to experience a spiritual moment. From Chandanbari, visitors have the privilege of enjoying panoramic views across the Langtang Himalayan range. Besides shops, you can visit both shops and the local cheese factory in this area.

Day 3

Trekking to Gosaikunda (4210m.)

Gosaikunda Altitude: 4,210 meters / 13,812 feet

Trekking Duration: 5 to 6 hours

Start your trekking journey from Sin Gompa to reach the sacred Gosaikunda Lake. Travelers reach Laurebeni while ascending the trail. You get a reward with panoramic views of the surrounding hills and faraway high mountain peaks. The journey from the starting point takes us 5 to 6 hours through trekking till we reach Gosaikunda.

You get to find Saraswoti Kunda and Dudh Kunda among other lakes, including Bhairav Kunda, Ama Kunda, Chandra Kunda, and Ragat Kunda. When you reach the destination, the water bodies hold religious value for the natural beauty of this area. Locals of the area identify the central stone of Gosaikunda Lake as the religious shrine of Lord Shiva, inviting numerous religious devotees. We spent the night in a temporary camp facility located in the close vicinity.

Day 4

Explore the Gosainkunda lake and back to Lauribina( 3335m) 6 hour

Lauribina Altitude: 3335 meters / 10,942 feet

Trekking Duration: 6 hours

Early departure is vital because it leads to the Lauribina Pass. Standing at the summit of Lauribina, you can see to Annapurna Mountain, together with Langtang Mountain along Dorje Lakpa Mountain. Once you reach Gosaikunda Lake, you will find its holy waters ahead. Visitors can find peace as they discover the mountain views while studying the crystal-clear lake water at this location.

Walk by the lake while breathing the soothing atmosphere, checking out Saraswati Kunda and Bhairab Kunda. Spend your time at Gosaikunda Lake before using the same trail to return to Lauribina. The return is mostly downhill. Walking today will take you six hours throughout the day. When returning to Lauribina, you should relax during peaceful evenings.

Trek Back to Dhunche - Drive back Kathmandu ( 4 hour) 5 Hur Drive

Lauribina Altitude: 3,335 meters / 10,942 feet

Trekking Duration: 4 hours

Drive Duration: 5 hours

The last day of the trek begins by returning from Lauribina to Dhunche before taking a drive back to Kathmandu. An early descent from Lauribina will lead you toward Dhunche. The trek toward Dhunche from Lauribina requires four hours to complete after walking through forests where rhododendrons bloom and visiting Tamang villages.

Visitors can shop in the local market before having a hot meal upon reaching Dhunche. The five hours scenic trip from the destination will return you safely to Kathmandu. Passengers can admire landscape features, including terraced hills alongside a river passing through small settlements spread along the roads.
