Overview

The 8-day Langtang Valley Trek itinerary is one of the best and most comfortable ways to experience this beautiful region. It is a perfect option for families, senior trekkers, and even energetic hikers who want a relaxed itinerary with plenty of time to enjoy mountain views and the stunning natural surroundings.

This 8-day Langtang Valley journey begins and ends in Kathmandu. The trek starts with a drive to Syabrubesi, then continues through Lama Hotel and Langtang Village, eventually reaching the picturesque Kyanjin Gompa. You will also have an extra day in Kyanjin for local hikes and exploration. Popular viewpoints include Kyanjin Ri and Tsergo Ri, both offering spectacular views of the Langtang Himalayan range and the Langtang Lirung glacier.

During the 8-day itinerary, trekkers typically hike about 5–6 hours per day at a normal, comfortable pace. This relaxed schedule reduces the risk of altitude-related problems and allows travelers to fully enjoy the scenery.

The Langtang Valley Trek can also be completed in 6 or 7 days, but these shorter itineraries require longer walking days of 7–8 hours, and there is no extra acclimatization day at Kyanjin Gompa. In that case, trekkers must hike to Kyanjin Ri early in the morning and return all the way to Lama Hotel on the same day.

Adventure Great Himalaya also offers a 10-day Langtang Trek package, which is fully inclusive from airport to airport. This package includes hotel accommodation in Kathmandu, airport pick-up and drop-off, all meals during the trek, a professional guide, porter service, and almost everything you need for a safe and enjoyable adventure.

Langtang Valley Trek- 8 Days Itinerary

Day 1

Kathmandu to Shybru besi Drive In Private Jeep - 6, 7 hour

Kathmandu Elevation: 1,400 meters/4,594 feet

Syabrubesi Elevation: 1,550 meters / 5,085 feet

Drive Distance: 122 kilometers

Drive Duration: 7-8 hours

We will begin our journey with a scenic drive in a private jeep from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi, which is the gateway to the Langtang Valley trek. This picturesque ride will give you a glimpse into Nepal’s rural landscapes, local culture and breathtaking mountain views. It runs from the chaos of Kathmandu via lush countryside up to Syabrubesi with mountainous surroundings.

Moving west on the Prithivi Highway, we will leave the capital. We will drive along the peaceful hillside roads with the sights of gentle river flow and the soothing melody of birds chirping. After a few hours of driving, we will reach Galchi, from where we will shift to Trishuli Highway/Pasang Lhamu Highway.

Driving north on this highway,  we will pass by popular stops like Trishuli and Betrawati. The roads become steeper, narrower and rugged as we drive towards Dhunche. After Dhunche, we will follow the winding mountainous roads and reach Syabrubesi.

Syabrubesi is a small town located at the intersecting point of the Langtang River and the Bhote Koshi River. Major inhabitants of this place include the Tamang people who are highly influenced by the Tibetan culture. The road is often lined with colorful prayer flags and mani stones as you get closer to Syabrubesi.

Upon arrival in Syabrubesi, the beauty of the Langtang region becomes a reality. The village is surrounded by the towering Himalayas and dotted with Buddhist monasteries, mani walls and prayer wheels. You will see the locals busy in their daily lives and also have an opportunity to understand their culture, traditions and ways of living. The Langtang River flows nearby, offering soothing sounds that enhance the serene atmosphere of the village. Similarly, it has a number of guesthouses, lodges and small shops to provide you with everything you might need to continue your journey.

Day 2

Trekking to Lama Hotel

Lama Hotel Elevation: 2,380 meters / 7,808 feet

Trek Distance: 10 kilometers

Trek Duration: 6 hours

After waking up in Syabrubesi you will have a filling breakfast at the Tamang Teahouse around 7:00 AM and prepare to start the trek to the Lama Hotel. We leave the village by 8:00 AM, crossing the Bhotekoshi River. After that, we will navigate another river, the Langtang River, on a suspension bridge and follow the path downstream through a serene surrounding.

The path leads us through thick forests of pine, oak and rhododendron trees.  En route, we will pass through quaint hamlets of Bamboo and Rimche. Continuing from Rimche, we go into the dense bamboo grooves with the gently flowing Langtang River nearby. Further ahead, open moors and cascading waterfalls offer magical views along the trekking trail. The last segment of today’s trail goes steep uphill to bring us to Lama Hotel.

Lama Hotel is a tiny settlement with limited infrastructure; however, its natural surroundings make it a great spot to relax and enjoy the Himalayan landscape. The magnificent views of the lofty Langtang Lirung and the other neighboring mountains can be viewed from here.

The forests of rhododendrons, pine and oak trees are serene with the sweet chirping of birds and soft rustling of leaves. The Langtang River flows nearby and you can take a nature walk along its banks. The area is ideal for spotting wild creatures, too, since it falls under Langtang National Park.

In Lama Hotel, we will enjoy its marvelous surroundings, eat a delicious dinner and spend a restful night to continue our adventure the following day.

Day 4

Trekking to Kyanjing Gompa Village

Kyanjin Gompa Elevation: 3,870 meters/12,696 feet

Trek Distance: 6-7 kilometers

Trek Duration: 3-4 hours

At around 7:00 AM, we will begin the day with a hearty breakfast at Langtang village and then around 8:00 AM we will depart toward Kyanjin Gompa. The trek from Langtang Village to Kyanjin Gompa is a short hike but explosively scenic. As the trails are gentle and well maintained, you will enjoy an easy and comfortable day’s trekking. We will reach Kyanjin Gompa by lunchtime. So, there is ample time to enjoy the natural beauty on the way, relax and explore the destination.

A little further, we will encounter glacial moraines, water mills and mani walls carved with intricate Buddhist inscriptions. Following the chortens and monasteries, we will reach the Kyanjin Gompa village, which is at the base of colossal Tsergo Ri and Langtang Lirung.

The village has derived its name from the Buddhist monastery Kyanjin Gompa, which is among the most culturally important sites in the region. Visiting this monastery will help you find out about the day to day lives of monks. Besides, from the Kyanjin Gompa, the mountains can be viewed simply spectacularly.

The other thing to do in this village is to visit the local yak cheese factory. It would let you see how traditionally the cheese is made and you will also get to taste some freshly produced cheese.

Day 5

Summit Kynajing Ri, Tserko Ri Peak

Kyanjin Ri Elevation: 4,800 meters/15,750 feet

Hike Distance: 8-10 kilometers

Hike Duration: 6 hours

On day 5 of the Langtang Valley Trek itinerary, we go up to Kyanjin Ri, which is a stunning viewpoint in the region. This peak is close to the village of Kaynjin Gompa. The panorama of Langtang Valley and awe-inspiring Himalayas look even more striking from this higher altitude vantage point. It can be challenging to go to a higher altitude, but once you reach the top, the effort will be paid off.

Starting in the early morning from Kyanjin Gompa, there is a steep rise over rocky terrain and alpine meadows. As you gain altitude, the air will be thinner; therefore, taking your time and acclimatization is quite essential here. Along the way, scenic ridgelines provide great views of surrounding peaks. Likewise, the unobstructed and close-up vistas of glaciers and icefalls add charm to the towering peaks of mountains.

Upon reaching the top of Kyanjin Ri, the magnificent Langtang region Himalayas greet you in the tender light of the morning sun. After soaking up incredible scenery and spending some time at the top, you will head back downward towards Kyanjin Gompa. Although this day’s adventure is pretty demanding, it will surely be one of the most memorable and rewarding of the entire trek.

At the army checkpost near Ghoda Tabela, we will stop to complete the necessary exit registration.

Following the winding trails take us through vibrant terraced fields, lush rhododendron forests and sparkling waterfalls. The path will cross several small streams often via suspension bridges. After several hours of continuous downhill trek, we will reach Lama Hotel.

Today, we will leave the high altitude landscapes behind, making our way toward the foot of the valley.

Traversing the mix of forested and rocky trails, we will gradually enter lush greenery and more fertile landscapes. The more we proceed, the more the incredible diversity of flora and fauna in this region is revealed.

We will pass through dense bamboo and birch forests, occasionally catching glimpses of the distant Himalayan peaks that have been our companions throughout the trek. The forest breaks up and we make our way back to the Langtang River, which we will cross on a wide suspension bridge. We follow the track along the river and finally reach Bhote Koshi River, cross it and finally reach Syabrubesi.

We will have fun tonight, rejoicing over our successful journey, recollecting all the unforgettable experiences
