Tibetan cultural elements remain strong in the village, and this can be noticed in the traditional stonework architecture of houses, prayer flags, Mani wall paintings, Buddhist monasteries, language, and local traditions. Trekking to Samdo Village 

The trek to Samdo Village is among the most scenic parts of the Manaslu Circuit Trek. From Samagaun, the hike ascends through the beautiful Himalayas and the trekkers get to see the snowy peaks, rugged valleys and the scenic beauty of the Manaslu region.

The Samagaun to Samdo Village trekking route involves:

Time to walk: About 3-4 hours

Elevation gain: About 345 meters 

The trail goes up into the upper part of the Budhi Gandaki Valley and slowly turns into an alpine zone. With rising altitude, the surroundings become wild and peaceful with alpine shrubs and wide and open mountains.

Accommodation in Samdo consists mainly of traditional teahouses and small lodges.  Facilities are basic but comfortable enough for trekkers. In Samdo teahouses, you can expect:

• Both local and foreign food
• Charging services (additional charges may apply)

At nearly 4,000 meters, accommodation becomes more ordinary when compared to that of lower altitude villages. Electricity and the internet might not be easily available. It is best to expect and be prepared for the basic mountainous conditions.

Food in Samdo 

Food served in the teahouses of Samdo is nutritionally balanced with plenty of energy to trek at a high altitude. Common meals include:

• Dal bhat (Rice, lentils and vegetables)

• Potatoes

• Eggs
• Tea/Coffee

Dal bhat is one of the best options for trekkers since it supplies both carbohydrate and protein which help fuel the long trekking days. With increased transport difficulty in remote mountains, food prices tend to be higher compared to low altitude villages.

Best Time to Visit Samdo

The ideal time for visiting Samdo village is the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). During these seasons:

• The days will be warm
• There will be clear skies
• Alpine plant life in the village will start blooming, especially in Spring.
• The air after the monsoon rains in autumn will be fresh
• Perfect visibility of the mountains.

The monsoon (June to August) is the least suitable time for visiting Samdo village. Rainy weather will make the trail muddy and slipper and landslides might disrupt travel in some sections of the route. The frequent cloud cover will limit mountain visibility and make viewing of the Himalayas difficult.

Winter (December to February) brings freezing weather with heavy snowfall. The view is stunning; however, the trail gets difficult because it is covered in snow and ice.

Is there a Wi-Fi connection at Samdo?

Yes, there are teahouses that provide Wi-Fi in Samdo at extra charges. But the Internet connectivity is very poor due to the distant location of the village.

Are there ATMs in Samdo?

No. There are no ATMs in Samdo and even in the upper parts of the Manaslu Circuit trekking trail. Trekkers need to have sufficient Nepalese Rupees with them before beginning the journey since they cannot use the ATM there.
