Destinatin Jugal Himal View Point

Overview

The Jugal Himal View Trek represents one of Nepal’s best-kept secrets. It provides an authentic Himalayan experience which maintains its tranquil atmosphere and low visitor numbers that differ from the popular and crowded Everest and Annapurna pathways.

The trek which starts from the capital city covers less than eight hours of travel time to show hikers both majestic mountain views and real village life. The route leads into the Jugal Himal through quiet trekking corridors. It is ideal for trekkers who seek peacefulness, short adventure and a unique Himalayan perspective near Kathmandu.

The Jugal Himal trekking trail lhttps://docs.google.com/document/d/1OGILKvXRFCpzNQQWS26BanRIlivItPEBumH4g0veAZ0/edit?usp=sharingeads through traditional Tamang and Sherpa villages, forested areas and open spaces which show the entire Himalayan range. Trekkers will experience authentic local hospitality while discovering untouched natural areas and witnessing traditional ways of life in remote mountain areas.

The Short Jugal Himal Trek provides both first time trekkers and experienced adventurers with a valuable experience combining cultural elements with beautiful and peaceful landscapes.

The Jugal Himal trek is a quiet journey into one of Nepal’s least explored Himalayan corners. It is perfect for those seeking authenticity over crowds and experience over commercialization.

Best Time to Go for the Short Jugal Himal Trek

Spring and autumn are the best times for the short Jugal Himal Trek. There is clear visibility of the Jugal mountain ranges during these seasons due to dry and stable weather.

The spring season from March to May presents its most beautiful display of rhododendrons bloom and the hills turning green. The daytime temperatures remain mild and comfortable and skies are clear contributing to the sharp vistas of the Himalayan surroundings.

Between September and November, visitors can see the Himalayan mountains through perfectly clear skies while hiking on dry paths after the monsoon season.

The period between December and February brings colder weather with increased trekking difficulty because of snow accumulation on high altitude areas. But it also provides prepared trekkers with access to serene paths and scenic white landscapes. Heavy rain during the monsoon season from June to August creates dangerous walking conditions and reduced visibility, while the region experiences its most vibrant green growth.

In short, the safest and most beautiful trekking experience which brings maximum rewards to trekkers is during the spring and autumn months.

Short Jugal Himal Trek Route

The Short Jugal Himal Trek begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Chhendang (2,635 m)  in the Sindhupalchwok district. The trekking adventure officially starts in the peaceful lower hills of the Jugal Himal region. The trail from Chhendang rises through forested areas and hilly routes until it reaches Ne Pemachhal (3,500 m) which features a tranquil high valley that provides scenic mountain vistas.

The next day includes an important acclimatization hike up to Gyap Kharka (4,400 m) which provides breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks before returning to Ne-Pemachhal for the night.

The trekkers will follow the same path that leads from Ne-Pemachhal to Chhendang after they complete their acclimatization process. The journey then concludes with a drive from Chhendang back to Kathmandu which completes the short but rewarding Himalayan experience.

The trekking section lasts 4 to 6 days with a moderate pace and gradual adaptation across different types of terrain. The trails combine forest paths. rocky sections. ridge lines and village routes which show both the natural beauty and remote isolation of the area.

It is an appropriate route for beginning hikers who possess moderate fitness levels, a willingness to embrace the remote nature of the region and the ability to walk for 5-7 hours daily.

Accommodation During the Short Jugal Himal Trek

The short Jugal Himal Trek provides simple and authentic lodging. Trekkers at lower regions of Chhendang typically choose between two options: basic homestays or locally operated teahouses. They provide a genuine cultural experience through shared spaces and traditional home cooked food.

Finding shelters becomes more challenging in remote areas like Ne-Pemachhal. Here are only basic accommodation options which include mountain huts or tented camps. The electricity access is limited and there are only minimal contemporary facilities available. But you are sure you have an exceptional experience because of the warm welcome of the locals and the beautiful natural environment.

The trek provides basic accommodations that allow trekkers to experience authentic Himalayan village life while they explore one of Nepal’s tranquil and unvisited trekking areas.

Your journey starts from Kathmandu as you drive to Chhendang which serves as the base for your Short Jugal Himal adventure. The drive is 6 to 7 hours long through mountainous paths across terraced farmland, riverside settlements and stretches of green hills.

The city atmosphere begins to fade as you exit the urban area, and the surroundings change into a gentle rural landscape, which shows traditional village customs and presents beautiful countryside sights. Sukute Beach, Balefi, Jalbire, Khadichaur, Barhabise etc are some of the key stops along the way.

The trip includes short breaks throughout for taking rest, enjoying tea and meals and observing the beautiful environment at a slow pace.

Eventually, you will reach a scenic Chhendang village where you will stay for the night at a basic homestay.

Day 3

Trek to Ne-Pemachhal (3,500 m)

We are on day 3 of our short Jugal Himal Trek Itinerary. The trek to Ne-Pemachhal begins from Chhendang, which leads to the peaceful highlands of the Jugal Himal region through its ascending path. The trail passes across the dense forests, rocky areas and narrow hillside sections.

The trek is dotted with stopping spots and unspoiled places such as Nimala, Ganji Khola, and Chachung Kharka. You will make your first stop at Tongsuf Cave, which is a holy site that enhances the spiritual experience of the journey.

The trail ascends to an alpine valley and eventually reaches Ne-Pemachhal. It is at a height of 3,500 meters which is a tranquil place of cultural importance. The location is believed to be the meditation ground of Guru Rinpoche. It provides stunning mountain vistas including the Jugal range. Ne-Pemachhal serves as the best location for overnight stays which help your body acclimate to higher altitudes.

Day 4

Acclimatization Hike to Gyap Kharka (4,400 m). Spend the Second Night at Ne-Pemachhal

The day lets you adjust to living in high-altitude conditions in the Jugal Himal region. The Ne-Pemachhal path which starts at an elevation of 3500 meters leads hikers to Gyap Kharka at 4400 meters through ridge areas and alpine landscapes that provide spectacular views of the surrounding mountains.

Your journey will take you through open grazing lands which provide unobstructed views of the Himalayas and glacial terrains. Bumpasherpu is the only shelter along the way. Upon reaching the summit of Gyap Kharka, you will be rewarded with the enthralling vistas of the Jugal Himal range, Dorje Lakpa, Phurbi Chyachu, Kang Nachugo and Jugal Glacier.

Afterward, you will return to Ne-Pemachhal to spend your second night. This high altitude climbing with low altitude sleeping helps you adapt to high altitude conditions while creating safer and more rewarding trekking experiences.

Day 5

Ne-Pemachhal to Chhendang Trek (2,200 m)

The path from Ne-Pemachhal to Chhendang winds through the scenic Jugal Himal area. The trail descends across alpine meadows, rocky areas and forested slopes which lets you view the nearby valleys and distant mountains.

Following the short Jugal Himal trek map, we continue to move forward. The route brings you back to familiar places like Chachung Kharka, Ganji Khola and Nimala, while allowing you to rest and watch the natural environment.

The descending path leads to a tranquil experience that showcases scenic views. On the way, you listen to calming stream sounds while you observe different types of mountain plants.

The vegetation becomes denser as you move towards Chhendang at lower elevations.
