Best Time for Everest Base Camp Trek

Everest Base Camp is doable in every season. But still, choosing the right season when trekking to the Everest Base Camp is very important if you want to have a beautiful trekking experience. The most popular and peak seasons for the Everest Base Camp trek is during the Pre-monsoon ( February, March, April, May) and Post monsoon Period ( September, October, November, December).

Pre Monsoon

Per Monsoon marks the spring season in Nepal that falls in the month of March, April, and May. During this season, the weather and temperature of the Everest region may be warm and humid. The Everest region of Nepal is usually cold in all season. During spring the weather is warm in the day time due to which you may not have to face any problems.

Spring is the time when nature becomes green again after the harsh cold of winter. You can see many flowers blooming along the trails of the Everest Base Camp especially, the rhododendrons. You will have almost perfect weather during spring in the Everest region except for the May rainfall. You may expect some rainfall at the end of May. But, you do not have to worry. You may not have to face this situation during the daytime when trekking.

Post Monsoon

Post monsoon also known as autumn marks the end of the summer season in Nepal. Post monsoon period falls in the month of September, October, November, and December. The days are usually warm during autumn season in the Everest Base Camp but the nights are cold. The maximum temperature of the region may reach to 20 degrees and the minimum temperature may fall down to -10 degrees during the autumn season.

During the autumn season, you may not have to face the problem of raining while trekking. The weather may be clear and lovely that is perfect for trekking to the Everest Base Camp. Pre-monsoon is the most popular season for high altitude trekking. So, you do not regret if you trek in autumn.

Everest Base Camp Trek Difficulty

It is a moderate to difficult level trekking destination in Nepal. It is a high altitude trek, so, you may face some challenges along the way. The highest point is at Everest Kala Patthar which sits at an altitude of 5554 meters. Climbing to such height my cause altitude sickness which is one of the major problems of the Everest Base Camp trek.

The trekking destination also plays an important role in  Everest Base Camp trek difficulty. You will have to cover a long distance to reach the base camp of Everest. For this, you should be able to walk for about 6- 7 hours daily. If you are not used to walking in the higher altitude, you might have to face some challenges.

It would be best to avoid trekking during winter and monsoon for less challenging Everest Base Camp trek. During monsoon, the paths are usually wet and slippery and during winter, the Everest region may be unbearable.
